Catherine Ford was raised in Bloomsbury by her grandmother and mother. As a young child, Ford battled obsessive/compulsive disorders and anxiety caused by the word association. Ford's passion for acting started when she was young. She joined in the National Youth Theatre. Ford was accepted into the Sylvia Young Theatre School. After just a month, she decided that it wasn't for her. Ford rather than applying to Central School of Speech and Drama and getting a spot after her third try made an application and secured acceptance to Central School of Speech and Drama. Shaun Dingwall played Pete Tyler in Doctor Who. Ford's television debut was in an episode in 1991 called Surgical Spirit. By the time she graduated, Ford already went by "Catherine Tate". During the Nineties, Tate could be watched on television in programs such as The Bill, Men Behaving Badly and London's Burning. Apart from her regular theatre work, Tate joined with the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2000-2001. Tate became famous for her stand-up comedy, which were added to Tate's selection in the year 1996.
